We are EAHere we have excerpts from EA's monthly newsletter the EAIVALUE MONITOR. We believe this is the best way to tell you a little bit about the type of company that EA is and the type of people who are a part of our merry band. Dear Rex items are letters sent to Rex Moses, EA's CEO from EA employees or their families. We are an ESOP Company! Eligible participants join the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) when they reach their one year anniversary. They are then invited to a quarterly Owner Employee breakfast where they receive information about how EA is doing. Campbell's Trip of a Lifetime On Thursday, we flew into Orlando and boarded the Fantasy. The ship was bigger then we expected. That evening, we set sail for the trip of a lifetime on the ship. That night, we attended various shows and explored the ship. We arrived at the island of Nassau on the second day. Thanks to EA we were able to spend our 10th Anniversary in Nassau. If it were not for the Points Program, we would not have been able to enjoy our anniversary in such a beautiful place. In Nassau, we took a buggy ride around town. After the buggy ride, we visited the shops and markets that were on the island. Before we had to get back on the ship, I stopped off and got my hair braided by one of the islanders. I became a Bahama mama! On the last day, we had fun at "sea day" where you could play games or just lie around the pool. We want to thank EA for the cruise they gave us. Until the next time... Shonda and Donald Hawaii - Trip to Heaven We arrived in Maui late afternoon and drove in the dark to our hotel but what awaited us in the morning was breathtaking. The view of the mountains from our balcony was beautiful. That evening we went on a sunset dinner cruise, the water was beautiful and the food was delicious. Saturday morning we left early on a Humpback whale watching tour. The biologist on board was very informative. Van spotted the first whale. Kim went to the theater production ULALENA, which told the history of Hawaii in song, dance and acrobatics. Sunday, we went on a tour around the north side of Maui. Van was in short sleeves and cutoffs and 5 minutes later he had on a leather jacket. Later we went to the Banyan Tree in Lahaina that covers almost a block. That afternoon we went to the feast of Lele where we ate a gourmet meal, enjoyed a Polynesian dinner show, and many dances. As we were sitting there, the sunset changed 5 times and it was beautiful. Tuesday we were up early for a bus tour of the "Road to Hana". We left at 7 a.m. and got back at 6:30 p.m. We went through the tropical rainforest and jungle. We saw 617 curves, 54 onelane bridges, waterfalls and spectacular cliffs, bamboo jungles and pineapple fields. We stopped at waterfalls and a black sand beach. I wanted to take some of the black sand to put in a painting but the guide told me it was against the law to take back lava or black sand. The last day - we went to the east side of Maui where the surfers go. We ate lunch at Charlies's in Paia, a little surfer town and had a delicious hamburger. When it was time to board the plane, Van had to take me kicking and screaming. We did not want to leave this paradise on earth. Pictures cannot describe the untouched beauty of this place. This was truly a wonderful reward. Thanks Again EA Van and Kim Morgan Dear Rex Randy and I would like to thank you and the rest of our EA family for the card and the beautiful flowers that we received for our 12th wedding anniversary. This makes us realize how lucky we are to be apart of such a great company. Thank you very much, Tinka Felix A big thanks to EA for the flowers sent to my wife and the nice card from you on our 25th wedding anniversary. Cinda is indeed a very special person and I feel as if I am the luckiest man in the world to have had her by my side for 25 years. As I have expressed to you many times, Cinda and I are delighted to be a part of an organization that is still doing special and meaningful things for their employees. Randal Pinson RS Branch Manager - PC1 (Vancouver, WA ) I would like to thank you for taking out a little time for recognizing my work. It was a great feeling to receive the letter from Kyle and you. There is not a company out there that does the things EA does to make their employees feel good about the job they have done. When I was hired on, I was told, "this is the greatest Fugitive Emissions company." Its letters like the one I received that put EA at the top of the game. I enjoy working for EA and know that you will hear my name a lot more as I work to better my career standings. Once more thank you for the wonderful letter. James A. Hux FE Equipment Specialist - DOW11 (Texas City, TX ) Christmas 2005 Christmas Bonus Information
DOW11 Wins Christmas Challenge Early in December, Kenneth "Bull" Durham, issued a challenge to all the FSs and RSMs to see who could collect the most toys for Toys for Tots. They were invited to take on "the Bull" and see who came out on top. The winner is . . . DOW11! Kenneth remains undefeated, DOW11's crew of six: Larry Moreland, James Hux, Ronnie Warren, Kenneth Durham, Betty McDaniel and Danny Lackey were able to collect 74 toys. Kenneth said that the families of the crew were also very instrumental in making this happen. To celebrate their efforts DOW11 was awarded the plaque pictured below, they will keep it at the site until next year, at which time everyone will again have a chance to take on Bull. Kenneth had this to say, "I just got the word about DOW11 winning the Toys for Tots Challenge. It is an honor because it helped a lot of children that may not have had anything. I would like to give Maureen [Richardson] special thanks. If it were not for her wanting to do a Christmas Project, none of this would have happened. Because of her a lot of children where able to enjoy Christmas. Again, Thank you and Happy New Year". The award reads, "EA an ESOP Company, Champion, 2005 Kenneth "Bull" Durham Christmas Project". EA Goes on a Mission Trip Recently Bob Burt's wife and son embarked upon a mission trip to the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico to minister to the villagers there. The villagers live up in the mountains and are direct descendants of the Inca and Mayan Indians of South America. As they were unloading their bags at the airport Bob noticed his wife had his EA Owner Employee duffle bag in her hand, completely packed with goodies for the people. He also noticed his son had on his EA 2004 Value Conference Shirt. He thought, how neat - EA is going on a mission trip by proxy. So he grabbed the camera and had them take the picture located on page 1 of our newsletter. Thanks Bob for this great story! Bob Burt -- Branch Manager -- PEN1 Value Conventions During April for the last nine years, EA has brought all company employees to the Houston area for an annual Value Convention. For many, it is an important highlight of the year with EA. The Conventions are a mix of fun and learning and a time to recognize the important work that Technicians are doing. There are numerous awards given during the Convention, but one of the most important honors is being named Owner Employee of the Year. 2004 Owner Employee of the Year Mark Hanak, right, received a plaque and check for $500 from Michelle Matthys, 2003 Owner Employee of the Year. This award has special meaning because the Owner Employees choose the recipient in a secret vote and the winner is not revealed until the Value Convention. Support for Michelle Matthys' LIVESTRONG Award Nomination Overwhelming Recently, President / CEO, Rex Moses solicited support for nominating Michelle Matthys for the Spirit of Survivorship Award given by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The award is presented annually to the individual who has made a significant impact on the world of cancer survivorship. The Spirit of Survivorship Award specifically honors a cancer survivor who demonstrates a resilient attitude towards their illness and inspires others to live their lives to the fullest. The following is an excerpt from the letter Rex Moses distributed to us all, "As we all know, we are honored to have in our midst the wonderful and unique woman that is our very own Michelle Matthys. Most of you have heard of her trials with cancer. Whether you have or not, we can all see the daily evidence of her triumphs. Please take a moment and join me in wondering about Michelle's 'spirit of cancer survivorship.' Each of us has our own point of view. Each of us has been touched by her unyielding courage and her unfailing cheerfulness. Those of us who have worked most closely with her can attest to all of you who have only known her on the margins that she is as steadfast in generosity and as consistent in her attitude as ANYONE we have ever known. A level of suffering that would have knocked most, if not all of us, down has only seemed to lift her higher. Michelle's cancer is in remission. Her last treatment was in December of 2000. Thank you for being a part of this special effort for Michelle. I hope that you will agree that, after all that she has meant to us, it is the least that we can do." Baby Announcement Concrete Repair Job The PC1 & PC2 Crews join together to perform a concrete repair job. They were working on concrete which had deteriorated due to chemical exposure. First, the crew had to remove the damaged concrete. Then they had to rebuild the concrete. Finally, they coated the new concrete with chemical resistant coating to prevent future deterioration. Steve Cain and Charlie Dally (PC1) traveled from Washington to assist and give technical support for this job in the California Desert. Erik Peace, Tony Lewis and DeAngelo Wilson (PC2) worked with them to the delight of our client - Cal Energy. DeAngelo Wilson had this to say, "It would take me a 5000 word response to state how wonderful it was to complete this project with Charlie, Steve, Erik, and Tony. Good men, good attitudes, good results - hats off to these Value Heroes." Kevin Stern had this to say about the experience, "The job was executed to the highest degree of craftsmanship and as you can see it was an exceptional experience for all involved." SUN4 uses EA's Field Service Program EA is pleased to announce an expansion of our services at the Sunoco Refinery in Ohio. EA will play a major role in helping Sunoco prepare for their new EPA Consent Decree requirements related to the on-site LDAR program. Mark Hanak and his crews will be at the site over the next several months to provide skilled field services to the site. Our thanks to Gregory Price and his crew for establishing a great foundation with the client to allow EA to engage in these additional services. Chaplain's Corner - Never Give Up Winston Churchill said to a group of young men during World War II "Never, never, never, never give up." That was his message. The message for us is to never, never give up. Don't ever give up on yourself, your friends, and don't give up on your purpose in life. Keep your eyes fixed on the goal and rely on God's power and renew yourself daily. There is a race we are all involved in; it is the race of life. The apostle Paul says, "Let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back" (Heb. 12:1). It is not important how we begin the race as it is how we finish the race. We all have our lane to run in, keep your eyes fixed on the goal and rely on God's power to renew yourself daily. If you would like to contact EA's Chaplain, you can email Kevin Stern at kstern@eaivalue.com or call (281) 333-3552 Ext. 117 Annual Heat Bonus Each year we pay a bonus to our Technicians equal to the highest actual Temperature or highest heat index reported (and verified) at an EA site, provided there has not been a heat-related injury or illness. In this way, all EA employees are focused on the additional hazards presented by the summer heat and can work together to ensure that everyone goes home safely. The table below illustrates how the heat bonus is distributed.
So Far the Heat Bonus Status for 2006 is: $90 (Temperature was 90 at ROM1 on 5/10/06) $98 (Heat Index was 98 at ROM1 on 5/10/06) In addition to following the Heat Safety guidelines, remember to submit the hottest temperatures and heat indexes from your site by emailing them to the Field Coordinator (fieldcoordinator@eaivalue.com). Dear Rex and Kim, How exciting that EA was a corporate sponsor for the ride this year.....the jersey looked super! My thanks to the wonderful EA Team: Rex, Claire, Gabby, David Michael, Kim, Stephen, Rachel, Nick, and Frank -- all heroes to me!! As someone with MS, I do appreciate (more than you know) the effort and energy that each one of you put into preparing for and participating in the ride. And how heartwarming it is to see the children so involved! My thanks to your beautiful families for their support in this tremendous effort. I will always treasure these memories with joyful thanksgiving - it is not just the riders who make the commitment, but their families as well. There is speculation among the scientific community that significant progress will be made during the next 10 years, with the possibility of a cure within our lifetimes. That will be a time for rejoicing! I also wanted to tell you a little about my journey to begin treatment for MS. I went up to the office one morning and asked Ralph if there was a list of injectibles covered on our plan. He said that he wasn't aware of a list, but right away called John Falcon despite my attempts to tell him that I could do that myself once the girls and I got home. He spoke to John for just a few moments and John asked him to have me call him that afternoon. John actually called me before I was able to give him a call - it was music day with the children! In his message, he said "this can be done and we'll help you." He was on the phone when I returned his call, but only a few minutes later he called back, and had assembled in his office Richard Moya and Monica Bubb, so that all three of them would know what was going on from the beginning. Monica told me a few days later (after tirelessly working to unfold the procedure for pursuing the injectible drug coverage) that I should call her anytime, with any questions, or even if I just wanted to talk to someone. The process of beginning treatment is off to a good start due in large part to the responses by the kind people whom I approached with questions, or for help. I wonder how often a person contacting an insurance company hears the words, "How can I serve you today?" I can tell you that I did! I am very thankful for how smoothly this has gone and for each person I have spoken with at EA or TEAMS. I thought that you would want to know more about the great group you have working for the EA family. I cannot fully express how thankful I am for the response from John Falcon and Monica Bubb. Their primary concern was me, not the cost. Always, I remember that the God we serve is good. So very, very good. Joyce Richardson (Joyce is the wife of Kyle Richardson our Field Coordinator) EA switches to United HealthCare We are delighted to announce that due to the growth in our company, we have been able to arrange for a health care plan that is better, better, better! Our new carrier is United HealthCare. The premiums will be slightly higher, but the benefits are much, much better. Just think about what everyone is saying about our new plan:
CA employees will remain with Kaiser Permanente. |
